Our Staff and Training

At AK Regal Care, it is our vision to deliver excellent Care and Support Services to all those who patronize our services. Our system of governance seeks to have employees who are trained, qualified, compassionate, and caring staff to ensure each of our service users are provided with the care and support they deserve. Our system of governance follows a clear quality framework that ensures that our staff team are committed and have evidence of adhering to high professional standards in health, social and community care. We ensure that in the line of carrying out our duty, we comply with the laws and health regulations within Sheffield City Council, South Yorkshire and The United Kingdom.


AK Regal Care has strong policies and procedures and a quality assurance framework which are continually reviewed and developed to ensure we safeguard the people we care for and/or support, maintain regulatory compliance and ensure we are at the leading edge of best practice. We ensure that:

  • The workforce that we recruit possess the skills, values, and experience to provide a high-quality service to the individuals supported.
  • We recruit a workforce with the necessary caring values and commitment to delivering effective outcomes for the people they support.
  • All our recruited staff will possess the necessary fluency in spoken English and written literacy skills to perform the role effectively or be supported to reach this level of literacy.
  • We include the people we support in the recruitment processes, offering opportunities for individuals to select their own support workers where practicable.
  • All the recruited staff will be subject to an enhanced disclosure check, undertaken through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), including checks against the adults barred list.
  • 2 (two) satisfactory written references are obtained, in respect of all prospective employees, one of which should be from the most recent or current employer.


We ensure that workers always know who to contact for help and advice whilst delivering the service and know the actions to be taken in the event of an emergency. We deliver 24hr support should operate an On-Call system, meaning that workers always have access to management advice and support. These are staffed by people who are experienced and capable of managing diverse queries and responding quickly to emergency situations. We have a clear line of communication available to both the individual, and their extended circle of support always.

Staff Training

 We believe in training and supporting our staff to the highest standards to enable them to have the correct knowledge, skills and confidence to provide high-quality person-centred Care and support. We consider our management team and employees to be the essential key in the delivery of a quality service. We believe that the future success of the company dependents upon it developing a skilled and educated workforce. AK Regal Care continue to provide opportunities for staff to study and train to further their career within the company to assist in the provision of a high standard of care and support. 


Our support and services are designed to meet the needs of adults - people with learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorder and other associated needs. We believe in training and supporting our staff to the highest standards to enable them to have the correct knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide high-quality person-centred care and support.


We perform checks to evidence that workers are competent to carry out their role on an ongoing basis, which also forms one part of the formal supervision process. This helps to demonstrate how training is supporting the worker’s direct practice and helps to identify if the worker requires additional support in their role.


Our formal competency checks are observations of the workers practice whilst they are carrying out key tasks which include checks of the workers practice and knowledge. We have other informal ways that we use to check competency, for example a quiz in a team meeting, discussions about practice in supervisions and creating opportunities for reflective practice. A balance of formal and informal competency checks helps to create a well-rounded view.

Our training is aligned with on-going supervisions and annual appraisals. We do refresher and additional training, based on the needs of the service and people who access support  and services. The basic principles which we apply are in reviewing if:

  • there is a new risk.
  • peoples’ care and support needs changed.
  • the care environment changed.
  • new care activities required.
  • there are changes to legislation, practices, guidance and policy.
